The Souk Excursion
Julie got her immigration medical exam this morning. They check for HIV, TB, Hep B&C, Syphilis, Leprosy, and probably a few others I’m forgetting. Results will come back in a couple of days. One more step in formalizing her work visa. Have to say, we are a little nervous about the leprosy one! As for me, they test the spouses much later, allowing them to spread leprosy everywhere!
This afternoon, I ventured out again via train, this time to the old souks (markets) of Deira. Deira is an older section of Dubai that sits 11 miles from our hotel, a 1hr 10min train ride (with 2 train changes). This place is HUGE! Dubai alone has 45 miles of coastline on the Persian Gulf (they call it the “Arabian Gulf” - no need to give cred to the Iranians).
Not many good photos today. I’ll go back with the big camera in the weeks ahead. This photo came from yesterday, complete with my shadow over the map. We currently live at the bottom of the big circle on the right. More to report tomorrow! . . . .
Looking forward to photos from the market!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the tests for the both of you. For your train ride...seems like a slow train...are you sure you were not on the Orange Line in Boston...ha-ha.
ReplyDeleteThese trains may be slow but they don’t break down!
