Home for the Summer!

Amazing first weekend back home in Maine for the summer, enjoying the ocean from our small town of Boothbay.  Spent Saturday boating around Portland Harbor with good friends. Above is the iconic Portland Head Light, the first lighthouse ever built in the US, commissioned by George Washington and completed in 1791.  Grabbing lunch with old friends after docking our boat at the restaurant. Final Day in Zurich

Image
Final full day in Zurich. I fly back to the US tomorrow and Julie stays here for business through the end of the week. Had a relaxing day wandering around town, retracing my steps earlier in the week. Disappointed to learn all stores are closed on Sunday. Spent our time evaluating the Prosecco across several outdoor venues.

A Day in Lucerne

Image
Amazing day in Lucerne, a town and canton about 50min south of Zurich.  Started our day by traversing Lake Lucerne by boat to the small town of Vitznau.  There we took a rack railway to the top of Mt. Rigi.  The rack railway has a slotted “rack” in which a gear fits, preventing the train from careening downhill and allowing it to climb steep slopes.  Julie and I are shown above at the summit of Mt. Rigi (5900ft), known as “the queen of the mountains.”   Lucerne Post Office Downtown Lucerne Lucerne Train Station Hotel along the lake View as we ascended Mt, Rigi Small plane circling the summit Hotel/Restaurant at the summit Our trains that brought us to the top Private Home along the lake View of downtown Lucerne (Church of St. Leodegar) The Chapel Bridge in downtown Lucerne. It was built in 1365! Jesuit Church in downtown Lucerne We ate at this restaurant. Very pretty building but food was quite nasty :(
