Commemoration Day
Holiday here in the UAE, similar to our 4th of July weekend. Yesterday was Commemoration Day, the beginning of their Independence Day weekend. Today is National Day which is the real holiday. The UAE separated from the UK on December 2nd 1971, forming a confederation of 7 emirates under a common government. It is one of 12 absolute monarchies remaining in the world today.
We spent the evening last night at Bliss, a beach bar walking distance from our apartment. Great view of the Ain Dubai and Jumeirah Beach. Some back story on the Ain Dubai: We finally found out why it is shutdown. Apparently, it is leaning forward and, although currently safe, it will not be in the years ahead. The government is suing the engineering firm that built it. Some videos of the light show along with more pics of our evening . . . .
This is a photo of “The Address,” a 994ft hotel/residence known by it’s unique empty space in its center. It has a rooftop pool & lounge that we intend to visit sometime soon!
Very interesting! What's the sparkly beverage?
