ArtDubai

Checked out ArtDubai yesterday afternoon. Massive art expo at the Dubai World Trade Center. We saw a lot of cool stuff and were lucky enough to escape without any bank account-draining purchases!  In the photo above, you see the subject standing incredulously inside the QR code room. For those of you who know our story from last summer, QR codes were not our friends. I stressed for several months prior to our move to get Walgreens to get us a QR code proving Covid vaccination (then no one checked it when we finally travelled).  Below are several pieces of art that we liked . . . .

Julie’s favorite.  We probably would have bought this one if it weren’t for the $10,000 price. Yikes!  (artist: Rakel Wajnberg)

My favorite, and a strong contender for Julie. This is the closest thing we came to a purchase. Not as crazy in price to the one above but still a deterrent. I’ll take an extra vacation, thank you. (artist:  Oliver Messas)

The most interesting piece we saw. At first glance, it looks like the iris of an eye. However, it depicts the 50 year history of the UAE. Each ring represents a decade. It’s actually painted enamel on aluminum (local artist:  Cedric Dubbiosi)

Stamps . . .

Carved wooden horse . . . Perfect for the patio in Boothbay!

Interesting pottery/ceramics in the form of a painting

Hard to tell the scale of this face sculpture but it’s actually 12ft high!

Front of the expo

Ongoing wall painting. Not my style but interesting

Late lunch over by the Burj Khalifa after the art show at restaurant Bice Mare
