The Edge of a Volcano
Some interesting facts about Santorini: It is one of the more prominent Greek islands located about 120 miles southeast of Athens in the Aegean Sea, although it is only 28 square miles in size. It is the southernmost member of the Cyclades island group. Roughly 15,000 permanent residents. The most unique aspect of this island, however, is that it blew up in 1600BC at the height of the Minoan civilization. It was the site of one of the largest volcanic eruptions in recorded history which killed all inhabitants on the island. To put it in perspective, the eruption was equivalent to 40 Hiroshima bombs! It totally blew the shit out of this place. Today, the island of Santorini is the above-water rim of that massive volcano, still technically active. The bay in the middle is formally called The Caldera, and it is literally the caldera of the volcano. One of the more compelling explanation’s for Plato’s fabled Atlantis is that it existed here. Easy to say it sank into the sea when you look across a 3-mile wide crater. Yet, if true, it blew up with little trace.
The dream with a little beer. I think a lot of you.
