The Walk to Ammoudie Bay

Laidback day of wandering around our little town of Oía. A ton of shopping. We both seemed to have acquired new summer wardrobes!  Highlight of our day was the very steep hike down to Ammoudie Bay (shown above).  This photo was taken at the top of the path, 300ft above the water.  They have very smelly donkeys to take you up and down but we opted to hike, avoiding donkey poop along the way.  Beautiful views everywhere. Had an incredible lunch at a restaurant on the water, Ammoudie Fish Tavern.  I had octopus and grilled dentex (similar to red snapper). Julie had cheese and tapenade. The thought of the hike back was aweful so we found a taxi who, due to traffic congestion, drove us back uphill most of the way backwards!  More shopping until happy hour and a dip in our infinity pool. Dinner at Thalami Bistro with some awesome Santorini wine.

Ruins of the old castle of Oía.  The 1956 earthquake took it down to its foundation.

Rebellious residents who refuse to paint their houses white.  Brown? . . . excellent choice!  Really?!  This ain’t your mama’s Pueblo . . . Just sayin’

Sun-dried octopus. Very tasty. I had it for lunch!

I ate this one

Aforesaid sun-dried octopus, fully plated

A very sad dead dentex, right before I ate it!  Ha Ha!  It’s good to be the apex predator!
