Churches & Horse Meat . . .

First full day in Almaty, Kazakhstan.  The photo above is the Cathedral of the Holy Ascension, the tallest wooden church in the world, built in 1907.

Below is the Kazakh WWII memorial. I think it is like the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier . . .

The Green Bazaar:  It is a large building painted green on the exterior, hence the name. It houses a wide variety of vendors, from clothing to fruits/vegetables, to meat, to tourist crap.

And the meat section . . . .
They eat horse here!  Crazy!

Lots of sheep parts too!  Lamb head anyone?
Hooves, tongues, and I think some intestines as well!  Yummy!  Happy Halloween everyone!

St. Nicholas Cathedral

 Our hotel . . .

Museum of Musical Instruments . . .

Almaty Opera House . . .

Beautiful park with these unique fountains. Guessing those large disks light up at night to make for a beautiful light display with the water

Remnants from the Soviet era.
I think these buildings are abandoned.  Still have the Star without the hammer & sickle.

This is a famous building but I can’t name it.  Awesome pic though, I have to say!

Kazakh squirrel . . . apparently, half rabbit.

Part of my dinner tonight:  Uzbek meat pies. No squirrels were used (at least I don’t think!)

    1. Ha Ha! Yes, this squirrel has flair! It’s like he stuck his ears in a blow-dryer!
