Hong Island
Great relaxing day yesterday. Half day trip to nearby Hong Island which our hotel overlooks. The name Hong means “room” in Thai, describing the cliff-walled lagoon and beach occupying the island’s center. Julie was able to get some R&R on the beach while I hiked up to the summit. The Hong Island Viewpoint offers an amazing 360 degree view for miles around Phulay Bay, which means mountains -phu- and sea -lay-. Located in the northeast corner of the Indian Ocean, the Andaman Sea boasts some of the most amazing scenery in this part of the world. The observation deck is reached by a 109M vertical ascent with over 400 stairs. Hong Island, as well as the surrounding islands, are part of the Thanboke Khoranee National Park, a quick 25 minute boat ride from our hotel. This is truly a magical place with geography we have never before seen.
The view of the lagoon from the summit. Julie can be seen swimming in the center of the photo, wearing a hat and blue swim shirt
Our ride to/from the island . . .
The jelly fish here are prolific. Nothing too scary but some will give you a bad rash if you touch them.
OMG so so special!!
