James Bond Island
The site of the filming of the 1974 movie “The Man with the Golden Gun” in Phang Nga Bay, Thailand. The iconic limestone karst stands 66ft tall (20M) and is officially called Ko Ta Pu. Loosely translated, it means “eye of the crab.”
There are over 150 islands in Phang Nga Bay, most are towering karsts like the ones below.
Long boats on the beach at low tide
Interesting cave and stalagtite structures near the shores of many islands
The car engine that powers the long boats. Most are 1.9L diesel engines, 8 cylinders.
Interesting rock formation next to James Bond Island. Half of the rock wall slipped downward long ago and now leans against the other side.
Poisonous sea worm we found on the beach. Looks a little like a trilobite with thousands of poisonous spines, a nasty little mother fucker!
The iconic tourist photo of James Bond Island
Hah! Just kidding . . . It’s really just a big rock we carried out to the island for the photo op!!
Cool caves. Many great places to kayak. This one was big enough to drive through with our 50ft speedboat
Largest mangrove forest on the right. Felt a little like the Everglades
3000yr old cave paintings
Lobster dinner at the hotel Thai restaurant. Tasted similar to the Maine variety but a little overcooked. Also lacking a giant draft beer, steamers, and a country band on a dock
A delightful guava mojito concocted by our master pool bartender Nut (yes, that was his name)
Last sunset of our Thailand vacation
Our crew . . .
Back at the hotel. My beautiful wife and best friend. Happy 10 year anniversary!
