Back in Dubai

Back in Dubai now for the past 10 days. Many new adventures await, including a trip around southeast Asia in the months ahead. Above is a pic of our apartment building. We are on the 30th floor, 4 balconies down from the top on the righthand side.  It’s still incredibly hot here as my screenshot below indicates. That is the temperature in the shade!  Temps in the sun can go well into the 120’s

View of the Dubai Marina (other side from where we live)

Most of the beer and wine here is fairly generic and quite expensive. For example, a Kendall Jackson Chardonnay which costs $12 in a US grocery store, costs the equivalent of $29 here. However, I’m occasionally surprised. Just tried an Argentinian beer which was quite tasty. (They gave me a six pack for free when I bought a ton of KJ Chardonnay . . . Go figure!)

Below is a view of our parking garage in the basement of the building. No, the black Ferrari is not ours, unfortunately. Our designated spots are to the left and empty as we decided from the beginning (2yrs ago now!) that we would not get a car

One of my pastimes while Julie is at the office is working out at the gym in the lower level of our building. Sad to learn upon our return that it had gone bankrupt!  If you look closely, you’ll see that the government has sealed the doors. Hoping another gym business takes over.

Some interesting new architecture coming to Dubai.  Below is a depiction of the “Cobra Tower” set for completion by 2030

Also, the world’s tallest circular building, set for completion by 2028.

Interesting then & now photo comparison of the Dubai Marina (completely man made in the early 2000’s). Our apartment can be seen in the lower photo to the right of the second bridge
